Supporting Digital Literacy and Quality Journalism, Garudafood Gives 100 Account Subscriptions to Kompas.id for Satya Wacana Christian University

Salatiga, 11 November 2021 - After being held since October 14, 2021, which began at the XXIII San Giovanni Interdiocesan Seminary in Malang, today the Garudafood Kompas Digital Literacy activity and the ceremonial handing over of 100 Kompas.id account subscriptions for 1 year were again held with the Satya Wacana Christian University (SWCU). This event is also the closing of a series of six digital literacy webinar activities carried out by Kompas.id in collaboration with Garudafood with the topic “Abundant Information, Filtering Hoaxes, and Fake News”.

The symbolic handover ceremony was given directly by Fransiskus Johny as CEO of Garudafood to Neil Semuel Rupidara, S.E., M.Sc.,Ph.D The Chancellor of Satya Wacana Christian University accompanied by Haryo Damardono Deputy Managing Editor of Kompas Daily.

In his remarks, the SWCU Chancellor said that hoaxes, fake news and science are all around us, so it is necessary for all parties to engage in dialogue with each other in building critical awareness to respond appropriately to these matters. We must take an active part in the production and distribution of correct and useful data, information and knowledge.

Digital literacy refers to the knowledge and skills to use digital media, communication tools, or networks in finding, evaluating, using, creating and utilizing information in a sound, wise, intelligent, careful, accurate, and law-abiding manner to foster communication and interaction in daily life.

Through this program, Garudafood hopes to help lecturers and students obtain information from credible and accurate sources. The lecturers as one of the educators who play a role in the formation of mature characters in students so that they are able to motivate and identify potentials to develop critical power in student thinking and students in the future can become agents of minimal change in their smallest environment to large organizations in the wider community so as to create capable successors of the nation and use digital media wisely to seek benefit for themselves and others.

Garudafood Cares for Quality Journalism is as one of Garudafood's CSR programs in collaboration with Kompas.Id in the form of providing a total of 1,000 Kompas.id account subscriptions for 1 year targeted for lecturers or students in 6 universities as well as internal employees of the Garudafood Group.
