ACT Had a Joint Training With Flood Crisis Center of GarudaFood
In November 2007, flood is still indeed limited to threat and not occurs through the entire city corners of Jakarta. However, some areas subject to flood such as Bukit Duri and Kampung Melayu have already inundated by water at the height of approximately one meter. Not only Jakarta, buffer zone of the capital city of Jakarta such as Depok is also affected by flood.
Usually, flood in Jakarta occurs in January-February, however, this time, the flood is predicted to occur rapidly since rainfall followed by heavy wind had continuously strikes Jakarta and surrounding areas. Even myth of five-yearly flood to Jakarta is apparently no longer effective. It means, Jakarta will continuously subject to flood in early of year.
In relation to frequent flood occurring in Jakarta, GarudaFood, a snack and soft drink producing company establishes Flood Crisis Center of GarudaFood. “It is a part of our concern to urban issues. One of the biggest problem of Jakarta city is flood,” said Chaerullah.
Establishment of Crisis Center of GarudaFood is a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of GarudaFood to surrounding environment. Person in charge of this team is CEO of GarudaFood Sudhamek AWS.
“We do not only help GarudaFood's workers affected by flood, but also other flood casualties. Crisis Center has already been established since two years ago. In the first year, Crisis Center team of GarudaFood mostly gives assistance after flood occurrence. Donation is in terms of logistic such as food, clothes, and donation for house renovation. However, in this second year, we will give help from pre-flood through post-flood,” said Irul, a nickname of Chaerullah.
In general, Crisis Center team of GarudaFood of this year is presided by Head of Corporate Human Resources Division Andre Vincent Wenas, under supervision of Lamro Harianja as person in charge of field. Flood handling is divided into three team, red, blue and green team. Red team has a task to do evacuation in flood area with the depth of 2 meters above. Blue team in flood area with a depth of 1 meter and isolated house. While logistic affairs will be handled by green team. “There is another one team designated to handle data center. All information concerning with flood, location and condition handled by this data center team,” said Irul.
Tuesday, November 13, 2007, taking place in Lake Situ Gintung, Ciputat, West Java, Crisis Center team of GarudaFood performed joint practice with rescue ACT team – Quick Response Action. Training material participated by approximately 20 members of Crisis Center team of GarudaFood and 4 members of rescue ACT team, consist of how to overcome flood, evacuation technique, and first aid. “Joint training has obviously given many benefits to our team. We hope such kind of training could be performed more intensively,” said Irul. (Gaw/ACT).
