Gery's Achievement in Indonesian Original Product Award (APAI) of 2007
Indonesia is rich in many natural resources. There are nearly all nations in the world admit it. Whereas Indonesia is rich of art and cultural products, is already admitted by many countries, except for some countries, that possibly do not admit it. Whereas there are only a few countries knowing that Indonesia is rich of original products having high market value and export potency.

In this information and globalization era, it is getting unclear to world citizens regarding who dominates a certain product. North America and Europe are the largest market for information technology-based products. However, peoples in the both economic areas probably do not know that products they buy and use every day are made of Asia. Taking into account the phenomenon, Bisnis Indonesia daily, organizes an activity entitled Indonesian Original Product Award (APAI) of 2007.

The said original products category are among others; they are designed by Indonesian Nationals, registered with the Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Industry, made in and popularized in Indonesia, employing Indonesian Workers and using raw materials originating from Indonesia.

There are ten categories which were considered in this APAI 2007, namely: Garment, Shoes and Footwear, Computer, Electronic and Household Appliances, Retailer, Snack, Beverage, Instant Food, Medicine and Herbs as well as Cosmetic. In addition to this ten categories, there are also three special categories for figures succeeding in category of creative industry, Outstanding Performance, and Indonesian Original Product Pioneer.

Judging process of this APAI engages judges who are competent in thief field, namely: Amalia E. Maulana (Head of MM Srategic Marketing, Binus Business School), Yongky S. Susilo (Director of Nielsen, survey institution), Insan Budi Maulana (legal practitioner), Narga S. Habib (General Chairperson of Indonesian Advertising Company Association), Goenawan Lukito (President Director of PT Oracle Indonesia), Iman Sudarwo (Chairperson of National Standardization Board), and Rofikoh Rokhim (economist of Bisnis Indonesia).

Evaluation system of APAI is based on three main factors. First, production factor consisting of innovation, research and development, local content, and applied technology. Second, marketing factor consisting of market share and sales development, brand development, marketing communication, and market distribution. The last factor is return on sales (ROS).

GarudaFood has been chosen to be one of the nominee of snack category with Gery as a brand representative. Marketing team of Gery represented by Marketing Manager Ferry Haryanto had made a presentation before judges, Thursday (6/12) in the office of Bisnis Indonesia, Jakarta. The panel of judges seem to be enthusiastic in giving response on presentation performed by Ferry. They ask about safety of Gery product to consume by children, registration coverage of Gery brand with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Right (HaKI), as well as consumer insight of this product in children point of view. Judging process could be said tight and tense but all questions can be answered appropriately.

Announcement of the winner is already made on Wednesday (12/12) in Nikko Hotel, Jakarta. Although Gery fails to earn championship trophy, but this Gery achievement gives rise to pride because of being able to compete to win the second position among a number of other popular brands.

This achievement would expectedly trigger other products to keep on making creation and innovation to produce high-competitive products both in local and international market.

This activity is expected to increase our love to Indonesian Original products, so that, in the future, we are able to be a host in our own country (it is certainly with various superiority and applicable business reality, either in price or quality and able to compete with ex-import products).
