Australian Initiative Bring Peanut Lead Firm to South Sulawesi
Two years after the launching of peanut program in NTB, program collaboration between Smallholder Agribusiness Development Initiative (SADI) and PT Garuda Food Putra Putri Jaya (leading peanut-based food manufacturer), IFC brings the company to explore possibilities to expand their peanut business in South Sulawesi. IFC (International Finance Corporation), a member of the World Bank Group, is one of the partners in SADI. IFC is supportive of GarudaFood’s efforts in developing its supply chain linkages.

Hartono Atmadja, Managing Director of GarudaFood commented that they are lack of peanut for raw material for their snack food factory, so that’s why they are looking for expanding business in other eastern Indonesia areas. Hartono added, “IFC role in strengthening their peanut supply chain have shown benefits not only for their peanut procurement but also the most important thing is the improvement in peanut farmer income.”



Related to the interest of GarudaFood for business expansion in South Sulawesi, IFC has worked with the company to conduct feasibility study on peanut business in South Sulawesi. This workshop is part of the initiative aimed at disseminating the study results as well as getting inputs and feedbacks from workshop participants. The workshop attended by 70 participants which was mostly from stakeholders in industry supply chain including peanut farmers, traders, researcher, peanut processors, and government officials.



Noted as speakers are Budiono Sukadri, Head of PT Bumi Mekar Tani (BMT) from GarudaFood, Bambang Sayaka, researcher from Indonesian Center for Agriculture and Socio-Economic Policy (ICASEP) Bogor. (PR Dept)
