GarudaFood Empowers Peanut Farmers in Eastern Indonesia
PT GarudaFood Putra Putri Jaya (GarudaFood Group) cooperates with IFC (International Finance Corporation), private sector division of the World Bank Group performs supplier development program for peanut farmers in Indonesia. Through this program, peanut farmers will be provided with training to increase production and post-haverst handling practice, as well as market guarantee upon harvest.

Signing of the agreement is made by Adam Sack, Country Manager IFC Indonesia and Hartono Atmadja, Managing Director GarudaFood Group in Jakarta, (14/2). CEO GarudaFood Group, Sudhamek AWS is also present in the signing of the draft of cooperation.



According to Adam Sack, agribusiness sector in Indonesia is one of main priorities of IFC. It is about 80% of poor families in Indonesia lives in rural areas, so that any efforts to increase the business opportunity through incrase of productivity and expansion of access to market proves to improve peoples standard of living.



According to Hartono Atmadja, GarudaFood has the same point of view with that of IFC. He is of the opinion that cooperation entered into by and between GarudaFood and IFC, to increase network to suppliers would be a mutually beneficial solution to all engaged parties.

Cooperation between IFC and GarudaFood in empowering peanut farmers would be made under the program of Smallholder Agribusiness Development Intiative (SADI), a program financed by AusAID focusing on economic improvement in agribusiness sector in the territory or eastern of Indonesia. For initial phase, land to exploit is extending of 5.000 hectares in West Nusa Tenggara. Not less than 18,000 farmers would be engaged in this empowerment program.

GarudaFood has been proven and tested to be able to perform its function as an executive of technical guidance and simultaneously a guarantor of peanut market.GarudaFood is already elected as cooperation partners by IFC due to its reputation as one of main players in food and beverage industry. This also includes its reputation as market leader for peanut-based raw material snack product in Indonesia, having strong commitment to develop local supply from peanut sector, thereby being able to increase business opportunity to Indonesian farmers.
