Consuming Fiber Does Good for Your Health
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” This old saying could hardly ring more true today, as people are finally beginning to realize the critical health benefits of a diet rich in dietary fiber.
Urban people in big cities have some issues regarding healthy life. Being busy with works and other activities give them a little time to have a proper meal. Mostly, people just eat junk food because it is fast and easy to consume.
Sadly, this unhealthy life becomes one of constipation problem in urban areas. Lack of fiber consumption makes it hard for metabolism of the body.
There are two different types of fiber -- soluble and insoluble. Both are important for health, digestion, and preventing diseases. Soluble fiber attracts water and turns to gel during digestion. This slows digestion. Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas, and some fruits and vegetables. Soluble fiber has been scientifically proven to lower cholesterol, which can help prevent heart disease. Insoluble fiber is found in foods such as wheat bran, vegetables, and whole grains. It adds bulk to the stool and appears to help food pass more quickly through the stomach and intestines.
Dietary fiber has long been reported to have many health benefits, but the big five are:
1. improvements in gastrointestinal health
2. improvements in glucose tolerance and insulin response reduction of hyperlipidaemia
3. hypertension and other coronary heart disease risk factors
4. reduction in the risk of developing some cancers and increased satiety (hence, some degree of weight management)
Dietary fiber becomes a way for people who want to go on a diet. They consume more food that contains fiber in order to restrain hunger.
When it comes to fiber and water, you can’t have one without the other. For individuals planning to make the move and add more fiber to their daily diet, it’s imperative they increase their water consumption to at least eight glasses a day, about 64 ounces.
But do not worry because nowadays, there is some healthy fiber product in practical packaging so people can consume it every time every day.
